Aesops Fable Exterior: The Dog and its Reflection

nKorth_aesop_concept.png

The story of The Dog and its Reflection is a tale of the pitfalls of lust and encourages being content with what you have. Combining inspiration from Stranger Thing's Upside Down concept, Aesop's Greek origins, and the Ancient Greek concept of the Underworld led to development of this project.

To the left is a simple concept board of the project. Below is the completed project from the side view to show the contrast of the two worlds. Closer up images lie below of both worlds.

Final rendered image. The side view was chosen because it best showed the similar but different natures of the worlds. The stylized painterly qualities was inspired by light and colorful illustrations in childrens books.

The Grimm Fairytale "The Devil with Three Gold Hairs", is longer tale circling around a man sent on a quest to get answers to 3 problems in the land. He ends up seeking out the Devil's Grandma to assist him in getting these answers.  I wanted to explore the dichotomy of the common perception of the Devil and of grandmas by merging the two. The final was inspired by UPA cartoons and the blase style of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina show. I also sprinkled in references from the Grimm story.

To the right is a general concept board of the project. Below is the establishing view of the completed project and closer up views of the various story references and combination of the two themes.

Close ups of Life world and Death Worlds. The dog from the story is represented on the banners. The bone from the tale, the cause for the dogs greed when it sees it in the waters reflection,  is in the smallest temple. Next to it a sign that says Beware written in Greek.

Steampunk Device: P.O.D

Steampunk project aimed to develop a fantasy version of a modern day device. When researching what to make I noticed alot of art and other steampunk creations seemed geared towards young adventurers so I began wondering in a truly Steampunk society what would devices used by the elderly look like? Coincidentally an ad popped up of a man playing golf pulling an oxygen tank. From there I formulated an easier to carry and use device for anyone in need of oxygen tubes while still adhering to the Steampunk approach to design.

I wanted the design and how it worked to speak for itself.
